Vinyl has been given different names over the years. You may be old enough to remember it being referred to as "Oil Cloth"!

A lot of people still use the word "Lino" - An abbreviation of the word "Linoleum". For those of you interested the word comes from the Latin for Flax (linum) and Oil (Oleum)!

Vinyl can be broken into 2 categories "Cushioned" and "Solid" as described below.

As a GENERAL guide Cushioned Vinyl will USUALLY work out less expensive than Solid Vinyl. This is due to the product USUALLY being more expensive and there is USUALLY  more work involved in the fitting process.

Steele's Carpets offer a full range of both products and will be happy to advise.

We offer a full fitting service including the uplift and removal of the existing floorcoverings and full floor preparation to the sub-floor.

Cushioned vinyl

Cushioned vinyl

The generic term is cushioned vinyl though most people in the UK refer to it as "Cushionflor". This is a brand name given to cushioned vinyl manufactured originally by Nairn of Kirkcaldy in Fife, Scotland.

Cushioned vinyl is suitable for anywhere in home, though it is predominately used in kitchens, bathrooms and conservatories.

Cushioned vinyl can be purchased any length required from rolls, usually available in 2, 3 or 4 metres widths. Top quality cushioned vinyl may have up to a 20 year Wear Guarantee.

Design-wise cushioned vinyl is available in many different varieties, ranging from traditional tile-like designs to modern wood-like.

Steele's carpets stock most leading brands of cushioned vinyl including Nairn, Rhinoflor and Novilon. All are available for delivery and fitting, usually with 2/3 days of ordering.
